Building a pool in the Doon Valley
Most residential pools take 8–12 weeks from excavation to handover. Hillside plots, rock, larger pools and indoor enclosures take longer. We usually plan excavation and shell work between October and May to stay clear of the monsoon.
Excavation and shell casting are best avoided from July to September, when Dehradun gets very heavy rain and open pits fill with water and can destabilise. Design, approvals and equipment ordering can be done during the monsoon so construction starts as soon as it ends.
Yes, if the pool is engineered for it. Dehradun lies in a high seismic zone, so the shell should be a properly designed reinforced-concrete (RCC) structure with engineered steel detailing and correct joints, not block-work with a plaster lining. We design every shell as RCC for this reason.
Yes. Many plots on the Rajpur Road, Mussoorie Road and Sahastradhara side are sloped. These need a soil and slope check, retaining walls or terracing, and good storm-water drainage around the pool. We assess this during the site visit and include it in the quote so there are no surprises later.
Requirements depend on your plot and its sanctioned building plan; within the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) area, larger or structural changes may need approval. For commercial pools at hotels, resorts and schools, additional safety and local-authority requirements usually apply. We recommend checking with your architect or MDDA, and we provide drawings needed for any application.
Pool types, water and maintenance
A tiled RCC skimmer pool is the most popular and practical choice for villas and farmhouses. Overflow or infinity pools suit sites with a view toward the hills. For Mussoorie or families wanting year-round use, an indoor heated pool is best. Compact plunge pools work well for smaller plots and terraces.
Water quality varies across the Doon Valley, and some borewell supplies are hard, which causes scaling and cloudy water. We test the source water before commissioning and can add a softener or suitable dosing system as part of the filtration plant.
